Now enjoying a theatrical run, Liway is based on Oebanda’s personal story being born to rebel detainees and spending his early childhood in prison in the tail-end of the Martial Law years.

As co-writer and director of the film, Oebanda says Liway was something he felt compelled to do not as a political pitch but to share a human story. “The power of storytelling is in getting people to emphatize even if their beliefs are different from yours,” he notes.
