Josephine Estrada in one of the films she starred in

I remember the name Josephine Estrada. She was Miss Philippines in 1962 and competed in the Miss Universe pageant in Miami Beach, Florida. She had been an actress in Sampaguita studios since 1960 and appeared in several films, her most memorable included Birds of Paradise (1963), From Tokyo With Love (1964), Tiger Lady (1966). She was last seen on the big screen in 1983 in JR after which she was reported to have moved to the US.

She was born Josephine Estrada Brown, and the former Sampaguita Pictures contract star and Miss Philippines entry to the Miss Universe 1962 pageant passed away in Kingman, Arizona on April 13, after her birthday on 9 April.
The former actress and beauty queen had been undergoing dialysis.

It was sad to hear the news of her passing as she was among the “artistas” I used to watch in movies shown in the little theater in my hometown in Albay province including Amalia Fuentes, Susan Roces, Romeo Vasquez, Fernando Poe, Jr. Joseph Estrada and many more. Bobby Vasquez and Ronnie Poe had gone before her and many others her age or older.

Josephine Estrada was 75 years old when she bid the world goodbye. May her soul rest in peace!
