Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has a flair for spectacle. And thanks to designer Mak Tumang who gave her the winning lava-inspired gown at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand that underscored her figure and enhanced her patented lava walk.
At the recent Binibining Pilipinas 2019 pageant, Catriona, again, stunned the crowd when she walked in to crown the winner of the crown she’d relinquish that night in a waling-waling-inspired gown, also by Tumang.
Tumang said on his Instagram post of the phots,"The Waling-waling is a paragon of unmitigated beauty.
"Many regard it as the rarest, most beautiful and the most expensive among all the flora our country has.
"This rightfully gives justice to its being dubbed as the 'Queen of Philippine Flowers.'
"Moreover, even the native Bagobos revered it as a 'diwata' (fairy) because of its unparalleled and captivating beauty."
The Kapampangan designer also likened Catriona to a waling-waling flower.
He explained, "This representation fits perfectly to what our Miss Universe Catriona Gray is.
"She is absolutely a queen of beauty and substance.
"This flower, like Catriona, continues to be on treetops and aspires for greater heights.
"The Queen of the Filipinos' hearts bids farewell to her reign here.
"Yet, she will incessantly reach and touch the bright sun, making her justly symbolic of the Filipino’s unceasing hope and tenacity."
Indeed, no other beauty queen-fashion designer tandem has the flair for spectacle as Catriona and Mak. These two embody the new generation of beauty pageant enthusiasts in the country. They had made history when Catriona won the Miss Universe title last year, and Mak Tumang’s journey in fashion will continue even after her reign in the Philippines as Miss Universe Philippines.
