This month marks major TV networks’ programming adjustments. Shows that aren’t faring well in the daily/weekly/monthly rating surveys are either axed or retooled and given a second wind, so to speak. But, generally, they are retired.
On the other hand, shows that are remarkably showing favorable rating figures are retained and given new characters to work around for the next four weeks, and if they get lucky, for the duration of another season or 13 weeks.
Minute To Win It had already served its purpose for the Kapamilya network, therefore, the programming guys decided to give it the green light to complete its run till Friday.
And then a new show titled Pamilya Ko edges onto its timeslot on Monday, 9 September.
Last week, the cast of the new show was introduced to members of the press, bloggers and vloggers that all gathered at the network’s DolphyTheatre.
The show focuses on Chico, played by JM de Guzman, who is exiled to live with his grandparents after a tragedy struck his family, alienating him from his own family.
Chico, however, exerts an effort to reconnect with his siblings and parents and just when things are starting to fall into place, something stirs the peace and amicable atmosphere in the family.
Chico tries his best to keep the family together.
That is the gist of the series that will premiere on Monday evening. Joining JM in the series are Sylvia Sanchez, Joey Marquez, returning Kapamilya Kiko Estrada, Jairus Aquino, Maris Racal, Kira Balinger, Kid Yambao, Mutya Orquia, and Raikko Mateo.
Also playing important roles are Arci Muñoz, Alyssa Muhlach, and Irma Adlawan.
Muñoz plays Betty, Chico’s best friend who’s always by his side to help him.
“In the series, I’m Chico’s crying shoulder,” the actress said. She and JM are real-life friends, “The director (Raymund Ocampo) said that we could use our friendship to make or characters look real.”
De Guzman agreed, “For us, in the scenes we taped together, it never like we were actors. We were just ourselves. I guess that’s the advantage of working with real-life friends in drama series. The pressure of trying to look and act natural is lessened.”
This is Muhlach’s first drama series and she said that she feels honored to be working with the likes of Sanchez, Marquez, de Guzman, and Muñoz. “I never thought that I’d be in this company of great actors.”
Estrada who for some time was with the rival network said, “I am glad to be back. It has been some time since I left and tried my luck at another network, but it seemed I’m destined to go back. I am happy to be part of this great drama.”
Estrada plays brother to de Guzman’s character. In the trailer shown before the presscon, it showed that he and JM seems unable to resolve some issues, all family related.
Sanchez who has played numerous mother roles on TV said that her character in Pamilya Ko is significantly different as she (Luzviminda, her role) is married. “Yes, I had played mother in the past, several already, and mostly they were single mother. Naiiba naman ngayon. May asawa pa sya.”
Adlawan plays the woman that causes the family to be ripped apart after one of the members of the family finds out her affair with their father, Fernan (Marquez). “Joey and I had worked many times in the past. It has always been like this, I either play some woman in his life with no connection, marital or otherwise. In this one, my character had him, but it isn’t right. I hope next time I work with him, akin na talaga sya…..hahahaha,” Adlawan said visibly amused.
The show’s director assured the members of the mass media that the series tackles relevant issues about contemporary families, particularly large families.
Marquez who has had several families that he values each and every member of his families, no matter with whom they are with now.
